Everyone knows that the cartels are the most powerful groups in Mexico. DEA surely knows that and hence, they have tried everything they could for so many years but all their efforts were in vain. In fact, their influence is getting stronger day by day, and more and more problems are arising.

1

There was a simple solution to this problem – make production of marijuana legal in the USA. But the government didn’t take any such steps. However, now that the laws are less strict, marijuana farmers in Mexico are experiencing losses.

2

This loss isn’t restricted to the farmers only, even the most powerful cartels are losing business. The Sinaloa cartel which is one of the most powerful groups in Mexico has also been affected. Their leader, “El Chapo” is one of the richest and most powerful people in the world; Forbes even included him in their list of 2009 billionaires.

3

Sinaloa is considered as the primary location for production of marijuana of Mexico. Even in Sinaloa, farmers have stopped cultivating marijuana due to major price drop in the recent years. In a time period of 4 years, the price was reduced from $100 to $30 per kilogram. Farmers can’t get enough profits to continue growing marijuana.

4

In fact, the marijuana grown in the USA is much better than those in Mexico. There are lots of controversies regarding this issue. While some people believe that their quality is simply inferior, others believe that since they have to smuggle the drugs to other states, their quality reduces.

5

At present, USA is the best producer of marijuana. This is evident from their ever increasing popularity – from 2013 to 14, in just one year, the market estimate increased from $1.5 billion too $2.7 billion.

6

Marijuana hasn’t yet been legalised throughout the country, but if that ever happened, the cartels would be in massive trouble, since 25% of their profits come from selling marijuana.
