After Miss Universe gaffe, Harvey says Happy Easter – on Christmas Day

Steve Harvey, a 58 year old comedian and host of various talk shows, has hit the front page of almost all major newspapers worldwide after he awarded the wrong winner the Miss Universe Crown, albeit accidentally. He did apologise, and gave the award to its rightful owner afterwards.

Recently, on Christmas, Harvey sent a tweet “Happy Easter y’all!” with a picture of him, showing peace sign and smoking a cigar. Obviously, this was an attempt to make a joke about himself, after the fiasco he caused.

This incident occurred on the 20th of December. Harvey was doing a brilliant job till he misread his cues and awarded Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, the Miss Universe Crown. He realised his mistake just after a few seconds, and then gave the award to Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. He apologised on Twitter and claimed that this was really an honest mistake.

However, this doesn’t mean that Harvey won’t be hosting any more Miss Universe shows. He had already signed a contract even before the show aired. The contract could last anywhere from 3 to 6 or even 7 years. In fact, there have been rumours that this incident was done on purpose to give a boost to the ratings of the show.

Les East, newspaper sportswriter, commented that although he rarely believes in conspiracy theories, this one might be actually true.

However, Salon, an online magazine, claimedthat these conspiracies aren’t true and nicknamed people who had doubts”Miss Universe truthers” –which is a term for conspiracy theory devotees.
